Privacy Policy
This explains what memeSter collects, why, who helps us run it, and how to delete it. Short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we don't sell your data, and there are no ads or ad trackers.
What we collect
- Account: your Apple or Google account ID, and the email address they share (Apple lets you hide it). Your username, display name, bio and profile picture.
- What you do in the app: memes you swipe, like, post, comment on, send, or report; people you follow and block. We use this to build your deck, your profile stats, and to keep the app safe.
- Chats: the messages and reactions you exchange with friends, so they can be shown to the two of you. Nobody else sees them; a message someone reports is looked at by us to handle the report.
- Photos you upload: only the ones you choose. The app removes location and camera information from them before uploading.
- Device: a push notification token (if you allow notifications) and your time zone (for daily streaks, and so reminders only come during the day).
- Invite links: when you open someone's invite link, we keep a scrambled form of the internet address you opened it from for up to two hours (in memory only, never saved), so that after you install the app it can ask whether that person invited you. Nothing connects you until you say yes.
- When you last used the app: so that, after a few days away, we can remind you that memes are waiting. You can turn reminders off in Settings.
- Technical logs: IP addresses and request logs, kept briefly for security and to fix problems.
Who sees what
Your profile and public posts are visible to other users; private accounts only to approved followers. Your creator badge shows on your profile only if you turn it on. What you liked, what you sent, your humor title, your stats, and your reports are only visible to you. Memes you send are only visible to the friends you send them to, and chat messages only to you and the friend you're chatting with. If you share your invite link, or send a meme outside memeSter (for example on WhatsApp), the page it opens shows your name and username.
Services that help run memeSter
- DigitalOcean (servers, Frankfurt, Germany)
- MongoDB Atlas (database, Frankfurt, Germany)
- Cloudflare (network protection and storage for images and encrypted backups)
- Apple (sign-in and delivering push notifications) and Google (sign-in)
They process data only to provide their service to us. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the app, your profile, posts, likes, comments, shares, chat messages and uploads are deleted right away. Encrypted backups are kept for up to 14 days, then they're gone too.
Your rights
You can see and change your profile in the app, and delete your account at any time in Settings. You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask questions about it by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or Turkey's KVKK) you have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
Children
memeSter isn't for anyone under 16. If you think someone under 16 has an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in an important way, we'll tell you in the app.
